The Eleventh Court of Appeals was created in 1925 by an Act of the 39th Legislature (S.B. 189, Ch. 87, P. 258) as authorized by Article 5, Sections 1 and 6 of the Texas Constitution. The Court is composed of a Chief Justice and two Justices. It has intermediate appellate jurisdiction of both civil and criminal cases appealed from lower courts in twenty-eight counties of Texas; in civil cases where judgment rendered exceeds $100, exclusive of costs, and other civil proceedings as provided by law; and in criminal cases except in post-conviction writs of habeas corpus and where the death penalty has been imposed.

The 11th Court of Appeals serves the Eastland, Texas area. The court consists of three Justices hearing cases from the twenty-eight counties as listed below.

 

New! Effective May 24, 2011, the Eleventh Court of Appeals is accepting electronic filings for Clerk's Records and Reporter's Records. This is the Court's preferred method for filing. For further instructions, please refer to the Local Rules under Practice Before the Court. NEW FOR ATTORNEYS! Effective August 8, 2011, the Eleventh Court of Appeals is now accepting the filing of documents with the Court through the Texas.gov electronic filing system. To use the electronic filing system you must first choose an electronic filing service provider and register. Please choose an electronic filing service provider and register today!

Through the Texas.gov filing system, you can electronically file documents, pay your fees, and serve opposing counsel. A filer who elects to e-file a brief must follow the Redaction Guidelines found on the Texas Supreme Court's website.

If you choose to file using the traditional paper filing method, you must still e-mail a courtesy electronic copy of all briefs to the Clerk of the Court on the same day that the paper copies are filed. The electronic copy must be e-mailed to sherry.williamson@txcourts.gov.
